Adult and Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Whitney Hanken, NP

Whitney Hanken hails from Northeast Iowa, where her journey in nursing started. She began her academic pursuit with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta in 2007. Her commitment to patient care propelled her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Upper Iowa University in Cedar Rapids in 2013, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from Allen College in Waterloo in 2017.

Whitney’s professional path led her to work closely with Dr. Stan Mathew and the stellar team at the Physical Medicine and Rehab Clinic in Cedar Rapids from 2017 to 2022. During this time, she developed a deep expertise in pain management, with a particular focus on migraines, a field she is passionately dedicated to.

Before achieving her certification as an Adult and Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Whitney gained substantial experience across various inpatient settings. She served as a nursing supervisor at a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital from 2009 until her graduation in 2017, and also worked as a hospitalist and in inpatient rehabilitation, as well as in community nursing facilities. These roles have provided her with a well-rounded perspective on patient care across different healthcare environments.

In 2022, Whitney embarked on a journey to New Mexico as a traveler, expecting a temporary stint. However, she quickly found a supportive and inspiring team, transforming her temporary role into a permanent position. Now, she calls New Mexico home.

Whitney is devoted to delivering holistic and compassionate care, always striving to improve her patients’ quality of life. Whether facing chronic pain, migraines or other health challenges, Whitney is here to provide her expertise and support.
