Dr. Scott Herbert, the president of Nexus Health, says the company was formed when like-minded practitioners in Santa Fe banded together to create a practice that is not managed by a third party but instead is entirely physician-led and patient-based.

Herbert says the hospital-led model raises the cost of care overall and makes it difficult to acquire and keep good healthcare providers. Having physicians in charge at Nexus Health cuts out facility fees that are often seen in hospital care and allows providers to take home a bigger paycheck while cutting costs for insurance providers and patients.
